SAFRA to open new clubhouse in the northwestern part of Singapore: DPM Teo - Channel NewsAsia

SINGAPORE: A seventh SAFRA club is being planned, to be located in the northwestern part of Singapore, announced Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on Thursday (Nov 24).
SAFRA Tampines will also get an upgrade, said Mr Teo, who was at the official opening of the clubhouse in Punggol.
SAFRA Punggol, which had its soft launch in April this year is the sixth such club in Singapore and monthly patronage has grown to more than 150,000 visitors.
One of its main attractions is an indoor water playground, Splash @ Kidz Amaze, which sees more than 30,000 visitors every month, according to SAFRA.
By March next year, SAFRA said the Punggol clubhouse will also have a new water activities facility that will allow NSmen and their families to rent kayaks and paddle along the Punggol Waterway.
Mr Teo said SAFRA has a role to play in total defence by helping to strengthen the psychological and social defence of Singaporeans. "SAFRA brings NSmen from all walks of life together to strengthen bonds and build cohesion. Today, SAFRA clubs are a common space for NSmen to build friendships, spend quality time with their families, or meet like-minded individuals to pursue common interests", he said.
NSmen and their families can also look forward to a slew of celebratory activities and promotions next year, as SAFRA celebrates 50 years of National Service and its 45th anniversary.
Thursday's official opening was also attended by Defence Minister and Chairman of SAFRA Board of Governors Ng Eng Hen, Second Minister for Defence and SAFRA president Ong Ye Kung and Senior Minister of State for Defence Maliki Osman.
